About Me

The Life of an Impostor

I was born on Park Avenue in New York City. At least I believe so. That privileged beginning led me to a PhD and a 40 year career in scientific research. It was a privileged beginning, but my decision graduating college was to either work in an auto parts store or go to graduate school on a stipend of $350/month. It was actually a very difficult decision. The owners of the auto parts store said “What are you, an idiot? Go to graduate school”. To this day I am not sure if they were sincere or saw this as a way of getting out of hiring me. I think I would have been a confident and successful auto parts employee. Instead I have spent decades in the insecure world of science. C’est la vie.
